Extracorporeal circulation and complications during the immediate postoperative period for cardiac surgery*

چکیده
Objectives: To compare the frequency of complications presented by patients during the immediate postoperative period (IPP) for cardiac surgery, based on the time of extracorporeal circulation (ECC). Methods: A quantitative, descriptive and correlational study with 83 adult patients, divided into two groups according to the time of ECC. Results: Of the total patients, 44 (53%) had an ECC duration of up to 85 minutes, and 39 (47%) had a time of over 85 minutes. Complications were common in both groups, with the most frequent being pain and oliguria. However, hemothorax, pneumothorax, and acute myocardial infarction occurred only in the group with the longer duration of ECC. Conclusion: The majority of IPP complications presented in similar frequency for patients, independent of ECC time.

Extracorporeal circulation causes release of neutrophil gelatinase-associated lipocalin (NGAL).
Extracorporeal circulation (ECC) used during cardiac surgery causes activation of several inflammatory systems. These events are not fully understood but are responsible for complications during the immediate postoperative period. Neutrophil gelatinase-associated lipocalin (NGAL), a member of the expanding lipocalin family, has recently been described as an inflammatory protein. In this study, ...
متن کاملPerioperative blood glucose level and postoperative complications in pediatric cardiac surgery.
BACKGROUND Anesthesia for pediatric cardiac surgery is systematically performed in severely ill patients under abnormal physiological conditions. In the intraoperative period, there are significant variations in blood volume, body temperature, plasma composition, and tissue blood flow, in addition to activation of inflammation, with important consequences. Serial measurements of blood glucose l...
متن کاملThe Role of the Cell Saber in the Intraoperative Period in Response to Bleeding During the Postoperative Period
Purpose: The risk of bleeding in Cardiac surgery is high, thus, it is necessary to transfuse blood products in the majority of cases. The Cell Saver (CS), when used during the intraoperative is an alternative helping reduce the need for homologous transfusion of blood products in cardiac surgery under extracorporeal circulation (EC). Our objective is to investigate whether the use of the CS in ...

OBJECTIVE This prospective study aimed to characterize the changes in blood lactate concentration and blood oxygen saturation in patients during the immediate postoperative period of cardiac surgery with extracorporeal circulation. METHODS Blood samples were collected from 35 patients in a rapid and random order from the arterial line and from the proximal and distal port of a pulmonary arter...
متن کاملAnterior cervical myelopathy in the early postoperative period.
PURPOSE The onset of anterior cervical myelopathy in the early postoperative period is an unusual complication after cardiac surgery without extracorporeal circulation in which haemodynamic stability was maintained. We report a patient who developed anterior cervical myelopathy after cardiac surgery. CLINICAL FEATURES A 53-yr-old man with no serious associated medical problems underwent cardi...
